Last updated: April 2026 | Applicable to: SSS members in the Philippines
Gone are the days of taking a half-day off work just to update your address or mobile number at an SSS branch. The Social Security System’s My.SSS portal now lets you update many of your personal details from your phone or laptop — no queuing, no travel, no lost time.
But not everything can be done online. Some updates still require a personal visit to an SSS branch with physical documents. This guide walks you through exactly what you can do online, what you cannot, how to do it step by step, and what to bring if you need to go in person.
Table of Contents
Before You Start: What You Need
To update your information through the My.SSS portal, you will need:
- An active My.SSS online account (registered at member.sss.gov.ph)
- Your SS Number or UMID card number
- A working mobile number or email address linked to your account (for OTP verification)
- A stable internet connection
If you don’t have a My.SSS account yet, register at sss.gov.ph by clicking Member Registration, filling out your details, and activating your account through the confirmation email. The link is valid for five days — check your spam folder if you don’t see it.
What You CAN Update Online via My.SSS
The following information can be updated directly through the My.SSS member portal without visiting a branch:
1. Contact information
- Mobile number
- Email address
- Home address (mailing and permanent)
- Telephone number
2. Civil status (Single to Married — specific conditions)
- Members can update their status from single to married online through the portal by submitting a digital copy of their Marriage Certificate. Note that other civil status changes (e.g., separated, widowed, or reverting changes) still require branch processing.
3. Membership type
- Changing from Employed to Voluntary member status can now be done online through the My.SSS portal — no branch visit needed.
4. Bank account information (for benefit disbursements)
- You can add or update your preferred bank account for receiving SSS benefits and loans online. The account must be a single savings or current account in your name.
5. Password and security questions
- These account credentials are managed entirely within the portal.
What CANNOT Be Updated Online — Branch Visit Required
The following changes involve legal documents and identity verification that SSS cannot process remotely. These require you to fill out the Member Data Change Request form (SS Form E-4) and submit it at any SSS branch in person:
1. Correction of name
Any spelling error, missing middle name, or legal name change — including changes due to marriage, annulment, re-marriage, or naturalization — requires a branch visit with supporting documents such as a Birth Certificate, Passport, or Marriage Contract.
2. Correction of date of birth
Errors in your recorded birthdate cannot be corrected online. You must present your PSA Birth Certificate or Passport as proof.
3. Civil status changes other than single to married
The following require a branch visit with supporting documents:
- Single to married (if supporting documents cannot be submitted digitally)
- Married to widowed (requires Death Certificate of spouse)
- Change due to annulment or declaration of nullity (requires Certificate of Finality of Annulment)
- Change due to divorce (for Muslim members — requires Certificate of Divorce)
4. Updating beneficiaries or dependents
Adding, removing, or changing your listed beneficiaries (spouse, children, parents) requires the SS Form E-4 submitted in person at a branch.
5. Correction of gender
Must be done at a branch with valid government ID and supporting documents.
6. Updating member record status from Temporary to Permanent
If your SSS record is marked “Temporary,” upgrading it to “Permanent” status requires a branch visit with a PSA Birth Certificate.
7. Contact information update (if no mobile number is on file)
If SSS has no mobile number on record for you at all, you cannot complete the online update process (which requires SMS-OTP verification). In this case, you must visit a branch to submit the change request form first, after which you can manage future updates online.
Step-by-Step: How to Update Your Information Online
Step 1 — Log in to your My.SSS account
Go to member.sss.gov.ph and enter your User ID and password. You will receive a one-time password (OTP) via SMS or email to verify your identity. Enter the OTP to proceed.
Tip: SSS rolled out multi-factor authentication in late 2024. Make sure your registered mobile number is active — you will need it to receive the OTP every time you log in.
Step 2 — Go to “Member Info”
Once inside your dashboard, look for the “Member Info” section in the main navigation menu. Click on it to view your current personal details on file.
Step 3 — Click “Update Info” or the relevant field
Depending on what you want to change, click the appropriate option. For contact details, you will see editable fields for your address, mobile number, and email. For civil status or membership type, look for the corresponding sub-menu options.
Step 4 — Make your changes
Type in your new information carefully. Double-check spelling, especially for address fields. For civil status changes done online, you will be prompted to upload a scanned copy or clear photo of your supporting document (e.g., Marriage Certificate in PSA format).
Step 5 — Verify with OTP
After submitting your changes, SSS will send a verification OTP to your registered mobile number or email. Enter the OTP in the field provided to confirm the update.
Step 6 — Wait for confirmation
You will receive a confirmation message on screen and via email once the update has been processed. Some changes take effect immediately; others may take a few business days to reflect in your records. You can check your updated information by going back to the Member Info section.
Step-by-Step: How to Update Information at an SSS Branch
For changes that cannot be done online, follow these steps:
Step 1 — Prepare your documents
Gather the required documents for your specific update (see the table at the end of this article for a full document checklist). Documents must be originals or certified true copies from the PSA or City/Municipal Civil Registrar. Bring both the originals and photocopies.
Step 2 — Download and fill out SS Form E-4
Download the Member Data Change Request (SS Form E-4) from sss.gov.ph. Print and fill it out using black ink, writing in capital letters. The form is free and not for sale.
Step 3 — Schedule an appointment (recommended)
While walk-ins are now accepted at SSS branches, members with scheduled appointments are given priority. Book your appointment through the My.SSS portal under the appointment scheduling section. You will receive a confirmation email with your transaction number — save it.
Step 4 — Visit the branch
Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. Bring:
- Your completed SS Form E-4
- Original and photocopy of your valid ID (SSS card, UMID card, or two valid government IDs — at least one with a photo)
- All required supporting documents for your specific change
Step 5 — Submit and get your acknowledgment
Hand over your documents to the SSS officer. They will verify your identity and review your submission. Keep your acknowledgment receipt — it is proof of your submitted request. Processing time varies depending on the type of change requested.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to go to the branch where I originally registered? No. You can visit any SSS branch nationwide — or any SSS service office abroad if you are an OFW.
What if my registered mobile number is no longer active? If your old number is still in the SSS database, you can update it online by using the email OTP option instead. If neither your number nor your email is on file, you will need to visit a branch first to submit a change request form.
Can I update my SSS information using the MySSS mobile app? Some updates can be done through the mobile app, but the full range of update features is available on the web portal. For critical changes, use the web portal at member.sss.gov.ph for the best experience.
How long does it take for changes to reflect? Contact information updates typically reflect within 24 to 48 hours. Branch-submitted changes such as name corrections may take several weeks to process depending on the type of change and document verification required.
Is there a fee to update my SSS information? No. All SSS member information updates are free of charge. The SS Form E-4 is also free to download and use.
What if I made an error in my online update? Contact the SSS hotline at 1455 or email [email protected] for assistance. You may also visit the nearest SSS branch e-center, where SSS personnel are available to help you navigate the portal.
